The Oldham Integrated Care Centre (ICC) is one of the largest primary care facilities in the UK and a flagship building in the heart of Oldham town centre.
‘The Box’ contains the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generator which supplies renewable heat and power to the building and enables surplus ‘green’ power to be exported back to the National Grid at night or quiet times of the day. This allows the building to supply green energy to other buildings and therefore become even greener itself.

Helping to reduce Oldham’s carbon footprint, the Oldham Integrated Care Centre has achieved a highly coveted ‘A’ rated energy performance certificate which shows how energy efficient the buildings is.
This is one of the highest ratings available and demonstrates the impact of the ground breaking technologies which exist in the building on reducing carbon emissions.
This rating was achieved by the range of sustainable features incorporated in the building, including solar shading, increased thermal insulation and, most notably, the innovative bio-fuel powered CHP generating system ‘the Box’.
The CHP generating system is fuelled by a bio-mass fuel based 100% on waste used cooking oil which could otherwise end up in landfill or poured down the drain. Click here for more details.
