Community 1st Oldham (C1OL)

Environmental Sustainability

At Community 1st, we are increasingly aware of the effect global warming is having on our environment. We are firmly committed to minimising any potential impact our activities may have on our environment and actively champion new and innovative green technologies for the benefit of future generations to come.
As such, environmental sustainability is placed at the heart of our building design process.

In support of National and Local Government targets, we seek to use LIFT buildings as ‘drivers for regeneration’.

This is evidenced by the location of the LIFT premises and the integration of health facilities with other community functions like libraries, leisure centres and the like together with initiatives to engage with the communities the new LIFT premises will serve to maximise the use of the services offered from each LIFT building. Also by the way in which C1OL supports and encourages our Public Sector partners and other end users of these new premises, to produce and adopt environmentally sustainable operational policies for the activities being performed within them.

C1OL strive towards developing a carbon neutral estate with challenging interim targets for carbon emission reduction that are above and beyond regulatory requirements.

C1OL are supported by a partner Green2Go in developing and delivering sustainable energy solutions.

The community facilities that LIFT delivers should act as exemplars in environmental sustainability and demonstrate how initial investment in green technologies can, in the long term, pay back not only financially but make a significant contribution to carbon emission reduction and reducing Oldham’s carbon footprint.

Examples of sustainable design features being developed and delivered by C1OL in Oldham:

  • Solar shading
  • Variable speed fan and pump drives
  • Combined Heat and Power system
  • Bio fuels – dual fuel boilers with bio fuel option
  • Pool desiccant dehumidification and fresh air control
  • Rain water recycling
  • Enhanced building fabric thermal performance
  • Water conservation measures and appliances (open touch water appliances, flow restrictors, waterless urinals)
  • Natural ventilation
  • Daylight controlled lighting
